The Honda Accord has been awarded the 2013 Canadian Car of the Year.

Announced today at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, it’s the first time the Accord has won the top automobile honor since the awards were started in 1985. It’s also only Honda’s second ever win, with the Civic taking the award in 2006.

The Accord also won it’s class for the best family sedan under $30,000.

Winning the class for the Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year is the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport.

The awards are decided by members of the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada, after their annual Test Fest in which members from across the country drive and compare each new vehicle in each class.

The winner of the North American Car of the Year, announced early last month at the Detroit Auto Show was the Cadillac ATS, with the winner of the World Car of the Year set to be revealed at the New York Auto Show in late March.
