For the first time ever, an American brand has made it into the top 10 of Japan’s Car of the Year selection.

The Jeep Cherokee has been given the honor, ranking in the 8th position on the 10 best cars list. Sitting atop the list as Japan’s Car of the Year is the all-new Mazda2 that will eventually make its way to U.S. markets.

The new Jeep crossover went on sale in May of this year in Japan and is steering the brand toward another year of sales increases. This is the third straight year that a vehicle from Fiat Chrysler Japan has made the top 10 list.
