The 2015 Subaru Outback crossover is officially the 2015 AutoGuide.com Reader’s Choice Utility Vehicle of the Year.
In many ways, the Outback carves a segment of its own by mixing the attributes of a station wagon with the sort of go-anywhere ground clearance that make SUVs capable of tackling almost any kind of terrain. It’s also easy to replicate the advertised fuel economy in real-world driving.
During our first drive, we tested the 2015 Outback on an ATV trail with land features that no car belongs on and it came out unscathed. It owes that in large part to the fact that it has 8.7 inches of ground clearance, which is only 0.9 inches shy of Toyota’s 4Runner.
With seven different vehicle categories voted for in this year’s Reader’s Choice Awards, Ford took home two wins including the Truck of the Year for the F-150 and the Car of the Year for the Mustang. Winners in the remaining Reader’s Choice categories include the Jaguar F-Type Coupe for Sports Car of the Year, the Cadillac Escalade for Luxury Utility Vehicle of the Year, the Mercedes S-Class Coupe for the Luxury Car of the Year and the BMW i8 for the Green Car of the Year.
